Positive Advertisement
The beauty product company Dove founded "The Dove Self-Esteem Project" in 2004, and their goal was to educate young people (mostly girls) from ages 8-17 about their self-worth in life and to build their self-esteem. According to Dove global research, only 4% of women consider themselves "beautiful" and 60% care more about theirs looks than their daily life. Their goal is to educate 15 million young people by the end of 2015. In this ad, it asks the reader, "Does skin really have to be flawless to be beautiful? Join the beauty debate."
Negative advertisment
In 2009, the clothing store Ralph Lauren released an advertisement that showed a very skinny woman that looked distorted, with her head being bigger than her waist. This ad can obviously destroy a woman's self-esteem by creating the sense of in order to be beautiful, you have to be skinny, which is false. When the advertisement received a ton of negative feedback for the ad, Ralph Lauren had finally apologized for distorting the ad.
